Pee Wee AA win Barrie Sharkfest!!

The Pee Wee Lightning participated in the Barrie Sharkfest Tournament this past weekend and came away Champions in a very exciting final game against the Peterborough Ice Kats!!

The Lightning skated into their 3rd tournament of the year a much improved team and was confident that we would have a solid showing in Barrie for the Sharkfest Tournament. In the round robin play, the girls tied Toronto Leaside 0-0 on Friday and then for their second game we tied the Ice Kats 3-3 in a very early morning game at 7:00am on Saturday. Our second game saw the Lightning play a sound offensive game early on with our goals coming from K Mighton who showed great effort in her tally and from K Hewitt who got a pair of goals in the tie. The afternoon game saw the Lightning play the host team, Sharks and we came away with an exciting 2-1 victory to take us to the finals on Sunday. The game against Barrie saw our Defense corps play an excellent game and our goals came from D. Smith and M Davey who both played a very strong game in the win.

On Sunday in the finals, the Lightning were playing the Ice Kats who came out strong against our girls in the first and the game was kept scoreless due to the solid Goaltending of KC who played her best game of the season! Our first goal came in the second by M Davey who played an excellent game for the Lightning along with our Defense who has improved greatly as our season has progressed. Then H Sollinger scored the eventual game winner on a nice effort from Madison to bury the rebound to take the score 2-0 with around 5 minutes left in the second. The Ice Kats decided to make things interesting by getting their first goal of the game late in the period taking us to a 2-1 lead going into the third period.

In the third, our Goalie stole the show by making numerous spectacular saves to keep us in the game and with just under one minute left, the Ice Kats put forth a late period push that saw a scramble in front of the net and we all still can't believe they didn't score, but our Goalie KC made the save of the season by doing a "barrel roll" to get in proper position to have the puck hit her glove, then the post, then to Madison who shot the puck from our hash mark into an empty Peterborough net!!! Wow!!! What a finish with 8 seconds left!!!!

The parents and the Coaching Staff are very excited for the Girls as they played their "hearts" out and left it all on the ice in the final game. Our girls are showing great improvement as the season progresses and Coach Gallagher is stating that we are starting a new season with this tournament and we are now 2-0-2 in the new standings.

Many of our girls played the best hockey of the season thus far, with great improvements in our Defensive play and our forwards are coming along developing some nice chemistry, which will bode well in our tough league play.

Good things are happening in "Lightning Land"!

Great job Girls, Congratulations!!!!
