The Saugeen Maitland Lightning Midget AA went undefeated in 6 games to win their third tournament of the year, winning gold at the Mississauga 31st Annual Christmas Classic this past week. The Lightning went 2-0-1 in round robin play with a 4-0 win versus Oakville (Team 1295), 2-0 victory against Mississauga (Team 715) and a 3-3 tie versus Toronto Leaside.  Saugeen eeked out a 3-1 shootout win against Oakville (Team 1295) in the quarterfinals followed by a tight 1-0 overtime win against the Mississauga Chiefs (Team 755) in the semi finals.  The Lightning then picked up the gold medals when they skated away with a 2-0 win in the finals versus Oakville (Team 1344).

Milverton's Harley Westman scored the game winner in the Championship game while Ripley's Laura Irwin continued her torrid goal scoring spree picking up the shootout winner in the quarterfinal game and also the overtime winner in the semi final match.

Owen Sound's Dollee Meigs lead the team with four goals while Hannah Davidson chipped in  three followed by Georgia Ottewell, Stacie Vink, Laura Irwin with a pair of goals while single goals went to Brittany Butcher and Harley Westman.

Chatsworth's Brittany Butcher had a great tournament picking up 4 assists including a spectacular assist on the game winner in the semi final game.  Also picking up assists were Laura Irwin (3), Lindsay Dales (3), Hannah Davidson (2), Kelly Garrow (2), Kailyn Soers (2), Dollee Meigs, Harley Westamn, Kelly Gribbons, Miranda Lantz and Hailey Herman.

Bantam call up, Miranda Lantz did a stellar job all tournament with some excellent two way play and picking up an assist on the game winning goal in the gold medal game.

The Lightning got a boost in the playoff round when they welcomed back 3rd year veteran player, Brittany Hymers back after missing a month due to illness.

Tight checking defensive play and solid goaltending continues to lead the Lightning to wins with both Shea Tiley and Stephanie Sluys each picking up two shutouts.

After a break for New Years, the Lightning will be returning to action when they participate in the Guelph Thunderstorm Tournament this upcoming weekend.
