The Saugeen Maitland Lightning Midget AA lost a hard fought
semi-final match in triple overtime against Pittsburgh in the semi-finals of
the Sarnia International Silver Stick tournament this past weekend.
The Lightning went undefeated in round robin play including a 6-2 win versus Chatham, 3-0 victory against Bluewater and a 2-2 tie with Oakville. In the quarter final game, Stephanie Sluys picked up the shutout in a 2-0 win versus London.
Shea Tiley had a stellar game in net versus Pittsburgh making many dramatic saves in the three overtime periods. Pittsburgh won the game 3-2 and went on to win the gold.
Having an excellent weekend on the score sheet was Owen Sound’s Dollee Meigs picking up 5 goals. Also scoring for the Lightning were Harley Westman (2), Hannah Davidson (2), Sara Gossell, Kelly Gribbons, Laura Irwin, Abbey Gibson and Brittany Hymers.
Assists were awarded to Hailey Herman (4), Laura Irwin (3), Sara Gossell (3), Hannah Davidson (2), Stacie Vink (2), Kelly Garrow (2), Dollee Meigs, Kelly Gribbons and Georgia Ottewell.
The Lightning will be hosting the Cambridge Roadrunners next Saturday in their opening round of the Lower Lakes playoffs.
