Lightning Spanks BAD Girls
Saugeen came up with 3 points against Belmont in a critical double header on Saturday in Howick. With the 3 points Saugeen moved into a tie for 5th in their division.

In game 1 Saugeen and Belmont tied at 2 with Saugeen winning the second game with a score of 3-2. Both teams were treating the games as playoff matches and it was two excellent games.

Game 1: Saugeen opened up the scoring in the first on a goal by Jenah Van Loon who fired from the top slot. Amy Hepburn and Sam Pruden assisted on the goal.  Amy Hepburn scored early in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Allison Lemon made the stretch pass to Amy for the assist.

Belmont scored late in the second to cut the lead to one after 2 periods. With Saugeen in the penalty box Belmont tied up the game mid third period. Both teams had excellent chances to get the go ahead goal but the game ended at 2.

Game 2. In a must win game Saugeen came out strong with many scoring chances but saw Belmont open up the scoring in the first. Olivia Linklater tied up the game in the second by hammering a rebound from Sam Pruden's shot. Rebecca Rier gave Saugeen the lead as she broke down the right side and fired a low shot that beat the Belmont goalie. Sam Pruden picked up the assist on a pass up the wing.

Belmont tied up the game late in the second to even the game going into the third. Saugeen came out hard in the third and again had many chances and were rewarded at the 6 minute mark. Kayla McCabe fired a high shot from the point that picked the top corner to give Saugeen the eventual winner.

Saugeen took a penalty with two minutes to play and with Belmont goalie out Saugeen PK played outstanding killing the penalty and cementing the game.

" We had great Goaltending by Erica Parker and Emma Bluhm who made big saves when called upon to get us the 3 points. We took only the one penalty in game two and had a couple in the first game as we have been working on better discipline. Great effort in game 2 playing short handed with 2 players away and one sick. "

Goals went to Jenah Van Loon, Amy Hepburn, Olivia Linklater, Kayla McCabe and Rebecca Rier. Sam Pruden had 3 assists with singles to Amy Hepburn and Allison Lemon.

"Our Defence played huge this weekend by limiting scoring chances and clearing our zone. They were a big part of the offence with many rushes and a couple of points on top. Great job, Kayla, Brie, Allison, Abbi and Delaney!
