Lightning Sweeps 3 Game Road Trip
Saugeen went on a road trip in the last 5 days winning 3-1 against Bluewater Saturday, 1-0 against Sarnia on Sunday and hit Guelph on Wednesday night winning 2-0.  Two shut outs and 1 goal allowed in three games!

The 6 points put Saugeen in second with 2 games in hand over Guelph and 1 point back. 4 big games over the next 2 weekends with the division title on the line.

Game 1: Saugeen travelled to Bluewater for a late Saturday night game and came away with a 3-1 win. Ally Spielmacher opened the scoring early in the first on a 3 way passing play to take the lead. Cassidy Mason and Reagan Kaufman assisted on the play. After a scoreless second period Bluewater scored late in the third on a power play with Saugeen down 2 players to even the score.

With Saugeen still killing a penalty Cassidy Mason stripped a Bluewater forward and dekked a D man to go all in alone on the Hawks goalie. Showing great patience Cassidy got the goalie to commit and fired top shelf to take the lead with 3 minutes to play. With the Bluewater net open Taylor MacDonald fired home the 3rd goal to cement the win.

Saugeen outplayed the Hawks all game who lived up to their reputation this year taking 11 minor penalties in a scrappy match with no Bluewater discipline. Rebecca Ropp earned the win in net  and player of the game went to Cassidy Mason who played a great game and had a high light game winning goal.

Game 2: Saugeen travelled down the road to Sarnia and played the Sting to a 1-0 victory. After a scoreless first Mikhaya Bowes hammered home a three way passing play to take the 1-0 lead in the second. Saugeen outplayed the Sting but though numerous chances could not add to the total. The one goal was all Emma Bluhm needed recording the shut out in net. The game MVP went to Justine Glerum who played an excellent game on Defense with a few end to end rushes and a couple of scoring chances.

Game 3: With first place on the line Saugeen visited Guelph on a rare Wednesday night match. With Saugeen 3 points back and 2 games in hand Saugeen was looking to narrow the gap and take the series lead as each team had won a game.

Saugeen came out skating and had many chances in the first but could not find the back of the net, missing an open net on one rush. Team Captain Hailey Herman opened the scoring in the second banking in a goal mouth scramble to give the Lightning the lead after 2.

Saugeen continued to skate hard in the third and were rewarded  when Ally Spielmacher fired a shot through traffic in front of the Guelph net. Cassidy Mason assisted on the play and Saugeen skated to a 2-0 win.

Rebecca Ropp was solid in net recording her 11th shut out of the year. Game MVP went to Ally Spielmacher who had an awesome game playing hard on PP and PK and scoring the insurance goal.

" Great game girls with three excellent road wins and first place within your grasp." 4 big games to finish the season left.
