Gold in Silver Stick
The Saugeen Maitland Midget A team captured Gold this week at the Int. Silver Stick in Sarnia defeating Brampton 3-0 in the gold medal game. Saugeen capped off a remarkable comeback after dropping their first two games in the tournament losing 1-0 to Oakville and 4-1 to Brampton.

Saugeen needed a win by 3 goals in the third game to win a 3 way tie for 2nd moving them on to the quarters. After a team heart to heart prior to the game Saugeen played their best game of the year hammering Woodstock 6-1. Saugeen then beat a Windsor AA team 2-1. Playing the same team Sunday morning Saugeen beat the Windsor team 3-1 to move into the Finals.... Interested in playing at an elite level, come to our tryouts starting April 13 in Goderich.  Tryout schedules will be posted soon.



Friday Game 1- Saugeen did not have their best game and could not find the back of the net losing 1-0 to Oakville.

Friday Game 2: With  a must win needed Saugeen played number 2 ranked team in Canada. Smarting from a loss to Brampton in the finals in Oakville Saugeen had lots to play for. Brampton opened the scoring and outplayed Saugeen the entire game. Saugeen lost 4-1 and had little chance of moving on. Jessica Satosek scored with assists from Becky Bultz and Sam Pruden on the power play to give Saugeen the only bright spot.

Saturday Game 3- After Brampton won all three games Saugeen need a win against Woodstock to give them a three way tie for second and a chance to move on. Saugeen needed to win by three to win the tie breaker and after a team meeting Saugeen came out and played their best game of the year hammering Woodstock 6-1. 

Lisa Mohr got 2 goals and an assist with Hailey Herman also scoring twice and picking up 2 assists. Reagan Kaufman scored 1 and assisted on 1 with Taylor MacDonald hammering a slap shot top shelf to round out the scoring. Becky Bultz picked up an assist.

Saturday Game 4 - Saugeen meet a Windsor AA in the quarters late Saturday night and skated to a hard fought 2-1 victory. Reagan Kaufman opened the scoring early in the first on a break away going 5 hole to take the lead. Hailey Herman scored late in the first on a solo effort going hard to the net to give Saugeen a two goal lead. Windsor scored early in the second.Rebecca Ropp played excellent in net stopping all shot after that and Saugeen moved into the semi's.

Sunday Game 5- Saugeen hosted Windsor 9 hours later after Windsor pick up a wild card spot. Saugeen continued to play excellent hockey and skated to a 3-1 victory to move into the finals. Hailey Herman scored on a shot from the circles  to  give Saugeen a lead  with assists to Lisa Mohr and Reagan Kaufman. Windsor tied it up in the second period but with 6 seconds left in period 2 Hailey Herman walked in all alone on the Windsor goal regaining the lead.

With 6 minutes left in the third Reagan Kaufman stole the puck from a Windsor D and walked in alone and went bar down short handed to cement the win. Rebecca Ropp played a great game making huge saves when called upon.

Game 6- Gold medal game ! With a chance to redeem themselves and show the Brampton team their game when they want to play Saugeen came out and played a dominating game defeating the Brampton team 3-0.

In the second period Makhayla Bowes opened the scoring with a shot from the slot for the eventual game winning goal. Cassidy Mason picked up the assist.

Cassidy Mason went around the Brampton team on a solo effort hammering home a shot to give Saueen some breathing room in the third. With under 5 minutes to play Victoria Krulicki picked up a pass up the middle and blew by a D ripping a shot high glove to give Saugeen the insurance.  Rebecca Ropp recorded the shut out playing again excellent between the pipes.
