Nov 1 & 2 Games
Written by Brad Humphrey. The Midget A team played a great weekend of hockey showing their opponents that they are at the rink to win.   SML hosted the Sarnia Sting at the Lucknow Sports Complex in Lucknow on Saturday.

Some practiced plays were put to use on the ice and had the team all around the Sarnia net with numerous shots. The Sarnia goalie was very busy and made some incredible saves to keep her team in the game. Finally as the second period was winding down,  Jessica Dales from Emma Eckensweller and Regan Cook, put one on the board for the Lightning team. Sarnia was not giving up and picked up the play late in the third, but good defence by the SML and some great saves from Julia Gaynor held the Sting off for a 1-0 win. This was a strong team effort and impressive show of puck movement and skating by the entire team…good job girls.   On Sunday, the team was back in Lucknow and hosted the Bluewater Hawks. The girls picked up from Saturdays game and played as a team again with good passing and puck movement. The hot goal tending from Bluewater was again making life hard for the SML team, but midway through the second, Aleya Murray from Robin Montgomery and Kailee Hewitt, put SML on the board. The Hawks didn’t give up and same as in Strathroy, they came on strong playing desperate hockey and tied the game up at 1-1 with 1:19 left on the clock, which ended as the final score of the game. The team worked hard this game and outshot the Hawks 26-10. Some luck around the net would have had a victory, but the effort and skill of the girls is coming through now…   The play of the team is really starting to gel together and their hard work is paying off. The Lucknow and area fans were impressed with the calibre and speed of play. Looking forward to some more great fast hockey from the team. The Midget As host Kitchener in Howick next Saturday at sponsor day and back in Howick against Woodstock on Sunday…see everyone there.
