Game 2 was Sat at 11:00 against the Brampton Canadettes ... the girls were a tad tired from the travel and it showed on the ice with a 4-0 loss.

Game 3 was against the Rochester Grizzlies from New York State who were coming into the game with a win and a tie. The girls came out on top of their game and took control right away. Good defence was key and the 5 D girls stood tall, quarterbacking the play out of our end. SML took a convincing win with a 4-1 score. Off to game 4 against Oshawa to finish up the round robin in our group. Offence was anticipated to be strong for the SML team and they didnt disappoint. Oshawa took the team by surprise with an early first period goal, but the girls rallied and took control for a 6-1 win. With the win, SML was first in their pool with 6 points and would play the home town Peterborough Ice Kats. SML was working hard as a team and keen for the wins. Final score was 4-0 for SML with a well deserved shut out by SML goalie J Gaynor who made some timely saves to keep her team in control. Goals in this game were E Eckensweiller 2, A Murray, A Stevenson and assists to K McCabe - 2, R Cook, K Hewitt, J Dales and M Corrie - 2.

The final game is against the the Brampton Canadettes who beat SML 4-0 the day before. This was going to be a different game as the girls were in the zone and ready to take the gold ! The game was fast and physical with a few penalties on both sides. Opening the scoring with a dangle and a shot to the top shelf, was the SML goal leader in the tournament E Eckensweiller with an assist from M Corrie and K Hewitt. The Brampton team wasn't lying down and with only 3:24 left in the game, they slipped one past a stretched our J Gaynor to tie the game at 1-1. The SML team was not going to let that stop them from the gold and A Murray with assists from E Eckensweiller and C McCabe put the Lightening back up one. The last 2 minutes were exciting to say the least. SML got a penalty and with the Canadettes goalie pulled, J Gaynor had to be on top of her game. Some timely saves and some great defensive plays made by the defence and forwards, along with some excellent defensive blocking at the end by K McCabe, SML was able to hold on for a 2-1 win and bring home the gold for the team.

An excellent effort by the team to get the win over the weekend and as usual, lots of fun and excitement for the team and parents. Special thanks to P Eckensweiller for her support on team meals and all the others that helped out with other team activities before and after the tournament !!!
