Sliver Medal in Brampton
The girls came home with a silver medal from the Brampton 2 Nations Showcase tournament last weekend.

Thursday night they played their first game against Markham Stouffville. After lots of back and forth, but unable to put one in the net the girls were down 1-0 at the end of the first. In the second the girls had a few chances but the score remained 1-0. Then halfway through the third Nelson sent a backhand shot past the goalie to tie it up. Unfortunately with about five minutes left Markham pulled ahead 2-1. Saugeen did not give up easily though and fought hard right until the final buzzer. Final 2-1.
Friday afternoon the girls faced off against Clarington and played a very offensive game, with lots of opportunities in the first. Then early in the second Nelson found the back of the net. Up 1-0. Great goaltending in both nets, as Clarington pressed hard to try and tie it up. Then in the final seconds Healy sent a nice pass to Sutton who found the empty net. Final score 2-0.
Game three puck drop was 8:00am Saturday morning. The girls must have been well rested, as they came out strong. About 8 minutes in Chinnick’s shot deflected off a skate and into the net to put us on the board. Before the period ended Neil got a sweet short handed goal to put us ahead 2-0. In the second both Healy and Deitz would find the back of the net. In the third Clarington would get one and then Alexander would set Boyce up to put number 5 in the net. Final score 5-1.
2 wins and a loss meant the girls finished first in their pool of six and had a by to the quarter finals at 9:30 Sunday morning where they faced New Jersey. The girls dominated the play in the first, but the score remained 0-0. Then early in the second Sutton put us ahead with a beautiful breakaway goal. In the final two minutes with the NJ goalie pulled, the first penalty of the game was called and the girls held off a 6-4 push by NJ. Final 1-0. On to the semi finals against Toronto Leaside. After an evenly matched first period the score was 0-0. About halfway through the second Chinnick opened the scoring with a shot from the point. With about 3 minutes left in the game TL tied it up. Overtime.  2 minutes in and Nelson sees the goalie is being screened by her D so sends it high, Goal! On to the finals! Amazing goaltending by Caldwell.
In the third and final game of the day the girls started out slow and Nepean got ahead 2-0. In the second Saugeen came to life and fought hard right until the end. But it wasn’t meant to be. Great effort everyone. Another fun weekend of hockey and team fun under our belts.
