Severe Lightning Warning!
Saugeen Bantam A's cap off a great weekend with a 3-0 win over Belmont and then tied 2nd place London 1-1. The Lightning picked up 5 points out of 6 to jump from 5th to a tie for 3rd over the weekend.

Saugeen have 9 wins - 3 losses and 4 ties in their last 16 games and are on a roll going into the last weekend of league play and then play downs.

Game 1 : Saugeen came into the game tied for 4th with Belmont after a big win Saturday over Kitchener and with a double header in Belmont next weekend knew they needed a big win. Saugeen came out hard against the big team of Belmont and struck first. Sam Pruden broke down the wing and fired a shot over the goaltenders shoulder to open the scoring.

Tori Terpstra continued her scoring with her 31st of the year in the second on a rocket slapshot that the goalie didn't even move on. Assiting on the power play goal was Jordyn Sholdice.

Tori Harshman iced the game on a feed from Tori Terpstra in the third to end the game at 3-0 Saugeen. Rebecca Ropp was outstanding in net for her 7th shut out of the year. The game was a physical contest against the big team with both teams taking 9 penalties apiece. Sam Pruden was awarded MVP of the game.

Game 2: Playing the 2nd place London,  Saugeen again opened the scoring in the first with a beautiful one timer from Cassidy Mason left alone in the slot. Emma MacMillan dug the puck out of the corner and put it on the tape for the assist.

London scored in the second to tie the game on a play that Rebecca had caught but the London player drove her into the net where the puck dropped out and the goal was counted. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Saugeen was out shot in the game  but Rebecca Ropp made the big saves and allowed no rebounds for second chances. The Lightning D played excellent over the weekend allowing scoring chances mostly from outside the zone and contributing big time to the offence.

Great weekend girls... Keep it up!
