Silver Stick Disappointment
Saugeen went 0 and 3 at this weekends Silver Stick but played with a lot of character and deserved 2 wins.
In game one Rebecca Ropp sustained a lower body injury and finished game one but could not go on. With the second goal tender leaving the team 2 months ago we were forced to suit a non goal tender.
After a close game in game 1 against Haldimand were they scored with 20 seconds in period 2 to go ahead 2-1 Rebecca got hurt and we saw Haldimand score 3 third period goals to take the game 5-1.
Prior to game 2 Jaime Van Loon volunteered to play net and her experience was a year at novice. Saugeen played a defensive trap against Markham and tried to limit shots. We lost 3-2 on a game that we probably would have won by a fair margin.
Game 3 against Brampton was a similar style and the girls play great but lost 4-1. The coaches told the girls that we felt that they won the last two games and would be still playing without the injury.
Jaime was awarded game MVP for stepping up in a real tough spot to play a postion that she was not prepared for. Great job Jaime and thanks from the whole team! Also stepping up was Janine who play defense in the last two games dropping from the center spot to cover Jaime. The girls played the trap very well and limited 2 top teams to shots from far out and goals that Becca would not have allowed.
No games for 2 weeks and we will be over all injuries and ready to continue our play off march.
