Lightning Continue Regular Season Play
Written by Adam Nolan and Vickie Mighton. The PeeWee Lightning have continued with regular season play over the few weeks, scoring a record of 0-2-1 since returning from the Barrie tournament.
The Lightning were home to Brampton on Nov 25, and ended with a 6-3 loss. As the game started the girls played hard, but went down by 1. Hard work paid off as Madison Beishuizen ties it up with an unassisted goal. The Canadettes battled back and go ahead by a goal with :02 seconds left.
As the second period plays on, the two teams battle back and forth from end to end. Both goalies made some great saves, but that didn't stop Beishuizen from sticking another puck in the back of the net, with an assist from Megan Wilton. The Canadettes came back hard and scored 3 unanswered goals to end the second period up 5-2.
The girls worked hard to keep up with a talented Brampton team, and Jamey Cunningham takes the puck on a break away, and scores the 3rd Lightning goal. With more pressure the Brampton team comes back and scores again, finishing the game with a 6-3 loss for the Lightning.
On Dec 1, the Lightning hosted Etobicoke in Howick and ended with a 3-0 loss. Etobicoke came out fast and hard, and the Lightning just couldn't strike no matter how hard they tried.
On Dec 2, we travelled to St. Catharines for a match with the Chaos. The strong St. Catharines team has only lost 2 games all year, and our girls were ready to play tough and give it their all! There was back and forth action with chances at both ends, but niether team could hit the mesh as the game continued and ended in a 0-0 tie. A great effort for the Lightning, showing the Chaos that the Lightning has the talent to play with the best.
