The SML Peewee AA team adopt a family for Christmas
In the spirit of Christmas we together as a team chose to adopt a local family in need through the Salvation Army in Wingham this holiday season.
Each family donated money and we then pooled it to together to purchase items from the Mom's wish list for her five children. It was a great afternoon Sunday, December 15th as some of the girls and parents from the team went shopping to Walmart in Listowel to fulfill the Christmas lists the family had supplied.
It was fun for the girls to pick out outfits and toys for each of the kids according to size and age. And a real learning experience for them to understand what a great thing they were doing to make one needy family's Christmas wishes come true.
We ended up with a trunk full of clothes, toys, warm winter hats and mitts and stocking stuffers for them all. The packages were sorted by each child and all delivered to the Salvation Army in Wingham, which is very grateful to us for having adopted this Family and helping them bring Christmas to another family in need to our own community. From there the group will deliver the gifts and a large family Food Hamper with all the trimmings for a traditional Christmas dinner to the family complete with wrapping paper to wrap the gifts themselves for the children.
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning Peewee girls and families should be very proud of this great Holiday gesture knowing that this Mom is very, very appreciative of us adopting her family this family this Christmas. She can't believe the generosity of us....and could hardly wait to see the smiles on the kids faces Christmas morning when they awake to presents under the tree. After all that's what Christmas is all about.
