Hello,
my name is Tom Ricica and I have accepted the position of U18A head coach for
the 2026/27 season.
I'm
originally from Whitby, Ontario where I grew up playing predominantly AAA
hockey. These years instilled in me an elite mindset, exceptional work ethic,
and strong skills which i would like to pass on. I look
forward to being a new lead voice in the Lightning organization, where I have
served as an assistant coach for 2 previous seasons. I have coached 12 other
boys and girls teams over the past 10 years.
My
passion is hockey. After minor sports, I continued to play in college then
various men's teams until deciding to try out for senior AA with the Lucknow
Lancers. I have continued to play for Lucknow the past 3 seasons. Being a 40
year old rookie has taught me that with a secure foundation in skill, and an
abundance of grit and determination, anything is possible.
There
is lots of talent within the catchment of the Saugeen Maitland Lightning. It is my
goal to get a group of girls together who want to work hard. This upcoming season will
focus on individual skills development and team strategy to ensure players
reach their full potential and maximize future opportunities at higher levels.
I place a strong emphasis on sportsmanship and respect. I am not only trying to
develop elite hockey players, but also cultivate exemplary citizens within our
communities who display leadership and teamwork in their everyday lives.
