2017/2018 President's Message

Saugeen Maitland Lightning would like to welcome all players, staff and parents to the 2017-2018 season. We are excited to be in our 21st year of existence and are recognized as one of the top Women’s Hockey Organizations in Canada.  We continue to have our teams ranked in the top 10 in Canadian Women’s Hockey. We are coming off a tremendous year where we had all our teams win medals in many tournaments and playoff series wins high lighted by our intermediate A team winning Provincial GOLD!!  A Great job Intermediate A players, coaches and staff!  Our Intermediate A team was rated # 1 in Canada for the entire 2016-2017 year.

We are pleased to announce that for the first time ever we are fielding 7 women's teams. We have added a Atom BB that we have had not had prior. Our goal is to continue to grow and starting with this  Atom team will provide a farm team for the Peewee team as well.

One of our greatest privileges and accomplishments is to be able to host the Chinese Women’s National Hockey team. We hosted this top 15 rated Women’s Hockey teams in the World last September in Mount Forest . The community, our SML organization and women’s hockey in the area was rocking with excitement at the chance to see this team play our own local young women.

Last season we celebrated our 20th season with a new logo for year along with new hats and coats to mark the occasion. We introduced a third all black jersey which the players got to keep at year end. Some teams will continue to wear this year.

It is an honor to be part of this Organization and I would like to thank the Executive along with all the coaches, managers, trainers and parents who spend countless hours into making Saugeen Lightning the Organization it is today!  Our success would not be possible with these people!

We have built an organization based upon hard work, fair play, respect for others and a love of the game. Our players live up to the high standards of play we insist upon and embody the true essence of being a top athlete while maintaining a balance of academics and family life.

Good luck, play hard and wear the Saugeen logo proudly!  Let’s go Lightning!
