Close Games Continue for Midget A's

On Nov. 13, Sponser Day for the Saugeen Maitland
Hockey Organization saw our Midget A team take on the former Prov. Champs and #1
in our division the Belmont Blazers. To no one's surprise it was a very heated
battle after facing them on a double header the previous weekend.
The SM Midget A's opened up the scoring within the
1st minute of play. The Blazers fought back with a quick goal. During the 2nd
period the Lightning's Penalty Kill remained perfect after the girls showed a
bit too much "spirit " causing some undisciplined penalties.

In the 3rd period the girls came out very composed and even took the lead for a short term. Our goalie Kristen Pearn from Mitchell made some key saves in the last 5 minutes of play to hang on for the tie against a very tough competitor. After the game the girls thanked their sponsers by providing a beautiful potluck supper for their guests. The sponsers saw first hand the competitive spirit and desire of a very young Midget A hockey team. Thanks again to the sponsers and it proved to be a great idea for the Saugeen Maitland Hockey Organization.
On Sunday Nov. 14 the SM Midget A team took on the Bluewater Hawks. The game did not show the same intensity as the match vs. Belmont. This game proved to be a very tight checking affair with the Lightning putting only 11 shots on the Bluewater net in the first 2 periods. It remained scoreless until 5 minutes left in the game when Bluewater scored short handed. With very steady goaltending by Chelsea Houle from Clifford kept the game very close. Again the girls did not give up and got the tie breaking goal with less then 40 seconds on the clock. Overall it was a very exciting weekend. Good work girls!
