Hawks Fried by Lightning
Saugeen came out with a big game today and scored late in third to win 1-0 and take the series 4 points to 0. Saugeen moves on to play winner of London vs Cambridge series.
Saugeen finished off Bluewater with a hard fought battle that saw the first 2 periods remain scoreless. Saugeen took 4 penalties but down from yesterday's 10. The Lightning played well in all areas and were especially strong on the forecheck. Rebecca Ropp played her usual strong game with big saves when needed and recorded her 8th shutout of the year.
Tori Terpstra broke in on the Bluewater defense with a great pass from Tori Harshman and deked the D and followed with a top shelf shot to open the scoring with 6 minutes to play. Saugeen then played most of the remaining time in Bluewater's end not allowing them to get an extra attacker out.
"It was an excellent game by both teams" commented Coach Spielmacher "and this is the kind of games we will see in this weeks Silver Stick and playoffs to come." We need to play with this level of intensity and passion. A great game and series! Lets go Lightning!
