Toronto Leaside March Break Madness Tournament
Composed by Aron VanPelt

The Saugeen PWAA girls traveled to Leaside for their second AA tournament since being bumped up to this new level of play.

Our girls took to the ice against Brampton in the first game and outscored the opponent 4-1. The girls seemed a little sluggish coming out of the gate but took total control in the 3rd period to put the game out of reach. Our second match of the day was the host team Leaside. The first period saw us fall behind 1-0 early to a very strong, big aggressive team. Final score saw our girls lose 2-0. Saturday morning came quick and we needed 2 wins to advance to the final on Sunday. With a tough lose still on the minds of our girls, we all knew we would have to come out with a lot more grit and toughness to pull off a win against our next opponent Aurora. Well the girls did just that and pulled off a 3-1 win. This set the stage for a must win against a vary tough Etobicoke team. After falling behind 2-0 early in the game, it took the girls 2 periods to realize that if we don't win we will go home. With this in mind and only one period left, the girls fought hard to tie the game at 2. After finding out that a tie would not put us through to the championship game the girls learned that to win at this level you need to play 3 periods of hard fought hockey.

Great work girls, and lets keep working hard!!!
