The Saugeen Maitland Bantam AA Lightning defeated the Bluewater Hawks 3-1 in the 2nd round of Lower Lakes league play-offs.
The Bolts played a little tentatively in the first period and Bluewater took advantage by scoring the first goal of the game. However, in the second frame, the Lightning lost some of their jitters and carried the play. Ashlee Lawrence scored the equalizer, assisted by Cassidy Mason and Tori Terpstra. Lawrence returned the favour, assisting Mason on the go ahead goal in the third period. Miranda Lantz iced the game late with an open net goal after Jamie Simpson made a key shot block in her own end.
On Sunday, the Lightning hosted the Stratford Aces in Howick for the opening game of the Provincial Playdowns. Lawrence scored the only Lightning goal of the game in the first period with helpers from Mason and Terpstra. Stratford replied soon after with a power play goal off a deflected point shot. The Bolts badly out-shot the Aces, keeping them pinned in their own end for much of the game, but could not bury the winner. Final score, a 1-1 draw. The Lightning will continue their post season with a couple of mid-week Provincial games versus Stratford and a pair of play-off games scheduled with Bluewater next weekend. Go get’r done girls!
