Lightning Sweep Weekend Games
Saugeen continued their hot streak on the weekend beating London 3-0 at home and then winning Sunday on the road 4-2 against Belmont. Saugeen is now challenging for top spot in the league with a couple of games in hand.
Saturday Rebecca Ropp recorded her 7th shut out of the year in the 3-0 win versus London. Cassidy Mason opened the scoring in the first on a solo effort getting the eventual game winning goal. Reagan Kaufman scored with a minute remaining in the first on a feed from Lisa Mohr.
Lisa Mohr fired home a goal 10 seconds into the third with assists going to Reagan Kaufman and Taylor MacDonald
Saugeen played a great game and evened the score against London who had dealt them an earlier loss. Taylor MacDonald was rewarded for her excellent game with the game MVP.
Sunday Saugeen travelled to Dorchester to play the B.A.D girls and skated to a 4-2 win.
Victoria Krulicki opened the scoring on a shot from the high slot getting assists from Sam Pruden and Jessica Satosek. Cassidy Mason opened the second period with a goal to give Saugeen a 2-0 lead with assists going to Makhayla Bowes and Ally Spielmacher. Belmont made it 2-1 on a power play to close the gap.
Cassidy Mason scored her second goal of the game on a power play to increase the lead to 2. Saugeen needed 11 seconds as they moved the puck around Belmonts end finding Cassidy at the side of the net for the eventual game winner. Assists went to Ally Spielmacher and Hailey Herman.
Belmont closed the gap again in the third with 4 minutes to play but Lisa Mohr ended the threat with an open net goal assisted by Hailey Herman and Taylor MacDonald. Ally Spielmacher was awarded MVP for her great game. Back to back wins for Rebecca Ropp in net.
