Lightning storm in Auburn Hills!!!
Written by Adam Nolan. The Saugeen Maitland PeeWee AA team travelled to Auburn Hills, Michigan from Nov 2-4 to compete in the Bauer World Invite.
As the girls started their weekend, they played the first game against the Whitby Wolves. A great effort by all, as Whitby is a top team in their division, and the Lightning kept it close, losing by a score of 3-1. Scoring the lone goal for SML was Megan Wilton, who played a fantastic game, with Jamey Cunningham getting the assist.
In the second game, we faced off against the Brampton Canadettes, a leading team in our own division. The girls played their hearts out against the strong Canadette team, but some penalty trouble made it hard on the Lightning. Kara Colhoun scored the lone, unassisted goal of the game with a great shot from the point, but as the game came to an end, the Canadettes came out on top with a 4-1 victory over the Saugeen girls. Great game in net by Julia Beaven, and good effort on wing by Hana Solinger and Jaymee Nolan.
Game 3 saw the SML squad playing the USA's # 2 ranked team in the Boston Jr Eagles. The Jr Eagles came out soaring, and took the game 4-0, but the score does not indicate the great effort put forth by the entire SML team, and they should be proud of the way they stood up to this very disciplined team.
The final game for the Lightning saw them matched up against the Chicago Mission U12. As the game unfolded, the Lightning played a great first period, and as the second continued, disciplined play allowed our girls to score first. Emma Swift netted her first goal of the year, and put the SML team on the board. Madison Beishuizen added a second goal for the team to end the second period. The girls kept up the pace in the 3rd, with Jaymee Nolan getting the third SML goal, Kara Colhoun getting the assist. Chicago was only able to put in one, ending the game with a 3-1 win for the Lightning.
Way to go Lightning!!!
