Lightning play top of league over Sponsor Weekend
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning Bantam AA team said "Thank you" to their many sponsors, fans and family on the weekend, and came away with a loss and a tie against 2 of the top teams in their loop.

On Sponsor Appreciation Day, the Bantams took on the Brantford Ice Cats.  The Ice Cats were out for revenge after their last meeting with the Lightning, which ended in a tie, so came out with a strong effort.  The Lightning struck first on an Aleya Murray shot with just under 5 minutes left in the 1st period.  Kailee Hewitt and Jamey Cunningham picked up the assists.  Brantford would tie it up just 20 seconds later, and take the lead less than 3 minutes later.  The game slipped away from the Bantam Lightning as Brantford would get 2 more in the 2nd, and add a final tally in the 3rd to take the game 5 - 1.
Sunday would have a different, more hungry Bantam team show up at the rink, and game play showed their hunger against the division leading Bluewater Hawks.  Action was back and forth throughout the 1st, but excellent goaltending on both ends. and impressive defensive play proved flawless, as neither team could find the mesh.  Lightning goalie KC Chagnon was in fine form and made some seemingly impossible saves from the hard shooting Hawks.  Just 25 seconds in to the 2nd period, Morgan Murray would sneak one by the Hawks netminder to go ahead 1 - 0.  SML would keep the lead for most of the 2nd, but Bluewater would sneak one in to tie it up before the buzzer went to end the 2nd.  Fast and furious action would continue in the 3rd with chances at both ends, but there would be no more scoring in either end, and the game would end in a tie.
Coach Trevor was much happier after Sundays game and the overall effort from the Bantams, and continues to look for more positive results over the coming weeks.  The Lightning continue to be competitive with top teams.
This weekend sees the Bantams travel to Windsor on Saturday and Sarnia on Sunday, with action in Howick returning on November 23rd when Windsor comes to town for a 1:30 start.  Come on our and watch your SML Bantam Lightning in action!
