Bantams win against Kitchener
The Saugeen Maitland Bantam Lightning played only 1 game on the weekend, as due to the bad weather, Windsor was unable to come to Howick.
The Lightning fell behind early in the first with a deflected shot by Kitchener, but soon tied it up on a Kailee Hewitt unassisted effort mid-way through the first. The score would remain tied at the end of the period.
Megan Wilton would get things started in the second for the Lightning, with a nice play on a pass from Jocelyn Ballantyne, and Jennelle Smeltzer at the 14 minute mark. There was no looking back once the girls took the lead, and would score again with 5 and a 1/2 left to go in the 2nd to take the 3 - 1 lead. Jamey Cuningham would slip this one in, with Hewitt and Kelsey Mighton getting the helpers.
The score would remain 3 - 1 throughout most of the 3rd, until Ballantyne would deflect a shot by Kara Colhoun into the Kitchener net, to seal the win with a 4 - 1 final.
The Bantams would like to take this opportunity to express our condolences to # 5 Natalie Gallagher, along with her Grandpa Gord, parents Jason and Lori and brother Joel, on the loss of her Grandma, Betsy Gallagher. Betsy was a loyal SML fan who loved to watch her grandchildren play, and will be sadly missed by the SML team and families.
In other news, the cancelled game with Windsor has been re-scheduled for Sunday, Dec 29th at NOON in Howick! The Lightning are away this coming weekend, and will compete in the Markham-Stoufville Bantam Classic tournament on Dec 6 - 8, so look for action to return to Howick on Dec 14th at 1:30 when the Bluewater Hawks come to town. Don't miss the exciting action!
