Bantams Disappointed in Scarborough
The SML Bantams travelled to Scarborough on the weekend of Jan 3 - 5 to complete in the Scarborough Sharks New Years Classic, but failed to repeat on the success of their last tournament in Markham.
The Lightning's first game saw them matched up against the North Bay Ice Boltz, and came away with a 1 - 1 tie. SML had opportunities throughout the game, but were unable to capitalize and get the puck through the North Bay goalie. Bryanna Campbell would get the only Lightning goal of the game, on a nice wrap around play, assisted by Kara Colhoun.
Game 2 of the weekend was against the Kanata Rangers, and the Lightning would really step up in this game and dominate with a 5 - 0 win. Scoring for the Lightning was Delayna Smith with 2, and Bryanna Campbell with the Hat Trick. Campbell would also pick up an assist for a 4 point game, and Smith would get 2 assists to also have a 4 point game. Morgan Murray would get 2 assists as well. KC Chagnon made some great saves to get the shut out, and some great plays by the Lightning defence helped keep Kanata scoreless.
Game 3 saw the team meet up with Detroit's Little Ceasar's, and a physical battle would see the Lightning go down by a 4 - 1 score. Scoring for SML was Kailee Hewitt, with Smith picking up the assist.
The Lightning needed a tie going into their final game of the round robin to move to the medal rounds, but would drop a close 2 - 1 game to Toronto Leaside, ending our hopes of a repeat medal performance. Jocelyn Ballantyne would get the only SML goal of the game, with Emma Swift assisting.
Next action for the Bantams sees them travel to Sarnia on Sunday, January 12th for a 10:30am start, then back in Howick on Saturday January 18th vs Waterloo for a 1:30 start. Come on out and support your local girls hockey!!!
