Another Undefeated Weekend
The AA Peewees had two games this weekend and ended up with a tie and a win.
Saturday's game saw the Lightning host the Stoney Creek Sabres at the Howick Arena. The home town girls wanted to avenge their loss to the Sabres from earlier in the season.
The Lightning had some great scoring opportunities but were not able to capitalize on them. Although halfway through the third period, the Lightning thought they scored what appeared to be a goal but the ref believed otherwise. In the end, the game remained a 0-0 tie giving each team a point.
On Sunday, the girls travelled to Mississauga for a game against the Chiefs. The girls got off to a good start, going up 1 to nothing in the first two minutes of the game. The girls kept working hard, and by the time the intermission between the second and third period came the Lightning were up 2-0.
The Chiefs came out playing hard in the third period, but the Lightning stayed strong. Then, on what could only be described as confusing, the Chiefs scored a goal while they were getting a delayed penalty against them. The puck coming off a Mississauga stick from the corner then bouncing off a Saugeen defender into the Saugeen net, saw the referees first wave off the goal. But after the Mississauga Coach complained sufficiently, the refs reversed their call and allowed the goal making it 2-1.
The Lightning were able to get the controversial goal back on a wrap around by Jaymee Nolan going up 3-1. The Chiefs were able get close again before the end of the third period with another goal. With the Mississauga goalie pulled for the last 2 minutes, the game ended in exciting fashion but the Lightning were able to hold them off and preserve the 3-2 victory.
The three point weekend keeps the girls in second spot in their division, one point behind Burlington and one point ahead of Oakville.
Come out and cheer the Lightning on next week as they play division leader Burlington on Saturday, November 23rd at noon at the Howick Arena.
