Midget AA, 2014-2015 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning came within a game of heading to Red Deer next week to participate in the Esso Cup as Ontario’s representative in the Canadian Midget Girls Hockey Championships.  The Bolts claimed the Silver medal as second place finishers at the Ontario Provincial Championships in the Midget AA division, the pinnacle for women’s hockey for 15, 16 and 17 year olds.

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning cut their Christmas holidays short to participate in the Mississauga Christmas Classic tournament and came home as tournament champions.  The Lightning opened the tournament with a convincing 4-1 win over the North York Storm.  Taylor MacDonald opened the scoring early with assists going to Madison Davey and Avery Reeves.  Neve VanPelt followed up with one of her own on a tip off a Brooke Schroeder point shot.  Cassidy Mason scored her first of the tournament with helpers from Lexi Smith and Jocelyn Ballantyne.  Ballantyne closed out the scoring with ...

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning came up a goal short of the gold medal at the 2 Nations College Prep tournament this past weekend in Brampton, losing 2-1 to the Sudbury Wolves in the final.  The tournament was attended by 36 of the top-ranked Canadian and US Midget aged girls’ teams as well as over 100 University scouts.

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning travelled to Detroit this past weekend to participate in the 2 Nations College Prep Series hockey tournament and finished the weekend undefeated.  Due to the tournament format, the Lightning failed to make it to the gold medal game based on goal differential.  Over the course of the weekend, the Bolts did manage to defeat 3 of the top 6 ranked Midget aged US girls teams and tied the 4th ranked team in Canada on Sunday in a consolation game.  26 of the top-ranked Ontario and US teams participated in the Midget division of the tournament.

The Midget AA Lightning travelled to Stoney Creek on the weekend and came away tournament champions, winning all 7 of their games over the 3 days.  The Stoney Creek Showcase is the largest Midget AA tournament drawing 64 teams from all over Canada and the United States, making the Lightning victory a major achievement.
