Midget AA Lightning Stoney Creek Showcase Champions
The Midget AA Lightning travelled to Stoney Creek on the weekend and came away tournament champions, winning all 7 of their games over the 3 days.  The Stoney Creek Showcase is the largest Midget AA tournament drawing 64 teams from all over Canada and the United States, making the Lightning victory a major achievement.

The Bolts started the round robin portion with a 4-1 win over the Barrie Sharks, followed by 5-0 defeats of both of the Buffalo Bisons and the Milwaukee Junior Admirals.  The three wins placed the Lightning second in their pool as another team also had three wins but a better plus/minus.  Second was good enough to place the Bolts in the Gold Championship round, however, but they had to face the Winnipeg Avros who had finished first in their pool of 8.  The Lightning made short work of the Avros, however, playing a defensive gem and downing them 2-0.

In the quarter-finals Sunday morning, the Bolts faced regular season division rivals, the Sarnia Sting.  The game went to overtime and remained tied at ones, but the Lightning won it with a goal in the shoot-out.  The Lighting then played the Minnesota Machine in the semi-finals and once again the game was tied 1-1 after regulation.  This time the Bolts did not leave it for the shoot-out, winning the game in overtime.  The tournament final pitted the Lightning against the Oakville Hornets, a traditional rival of the Saugeen Maitland organization.  For the third game in a row, the game went to overtime, with the Lightning once again potting one in the extra frame to give them the 3-2 victory and tournament championship.  Congratulations girls, what a great result for the first tournament of the year.
