Midget AA capture Silver at Detroit Two Nations
The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA's captured Silver on the weekend at the Two Nations Detroit Tournament. The girls started off with a 5-0 win over Northern Cyclones. Katie Heath led the way with 2 goals and Nicole Cosgrove, Jennelle Smeltzer and Faith Flanagan with singles. Assists to Smeltzer (2), Mel Nolan (2) and Gabby Jex. Kaitlyn Chagnon earned the shut out.

Game 2 saw the Lightning face the Minnesota Blades. Goals by Smeltzer and Aleya Murray and assists from Smeltzer and Heath gave them a 2-0 win. Julia Gaynor earned the shutout. Next up was a 1-0 win against the California Wave. Faith Flanagan scored on the power play and Chagnon earned the shutout. Facing their toughest opponent on Saturday afternoon, the Lightning got off to a slow start against Shattuck St Marys, giving up a goal in the first minute of the first period and the first minute of the second period to fall behind 2-0, but the Lightning fought back late in the second to score 3 quick goals to give them a lead. Heath, Cosgrove and Smeltzer scored with Jex getting 2 assists. Hannah Herman sealed the game with an open net goal to seal the victory 4-2. The Lightning ended up first over-all to play for the Championship against league rival Chatham. Chatham scored on the power play in the first period and despite some good chances the Lightning couldn't put the puck in the net and Chatham won 1-0.
