Intermediate A, 2015-2016 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

Saugeen went to Huntsville on the weekend playing in the Sudbury Invitational Intermediate A tournament and beat Peterborough 4 to 2 in the Finals to win Gold! Saugeen went undefeated in the round robin securing first place and a bye to the Final. Saugeen has now won 3 Golds and 2 Silvers in the 5 tournaments they have played and finish the season with Provincials in March. 

Saugeen Intermediate A lost  the finals in overtime to St Catherines who are the # 1 ranked team in Canada 2-1. With 30 seconds remaining in the game and Saugeen holding on to a 1-0 lead St Catherines scored with their goal tender out.  Saugeen gave up a goal in the overtime period on a 2 on 0 break away on the 3 on 3 OT period. Saugeen finished the round robin in first. 

Saugeen traveled to Detroit on the weekend and rolled to 5 straight wins to successfully defend their last years Gold medal.The Lightning outscored their competition 30-6 with 2 shut outs. Saugeen extends their unbeaten streak to 13 straight wins to start the season.  Hailey Herman took home the Tournament MVP award scoring  5 goals and 5 assists with a strong defensive game as well. Saugeen has started off strong with 2 tournament wins and looking forward to the Guelph tournament in December. 

Saugeen Maitland came home with Gold after beating Sudbury 5-0 in the finals of the Pink in the Rink tournament in Etobicoke. In Saugeen's first tournament of the year the team went a perfect 5 straight wins. Saugeen is 7-0 to start the season scoring 24 goals in that time and allowing only 3. The Lightning are  looking forward to the World Bauer in Detroit in November where they are the defending Champions. 

Saugeen Maitland Intermediate A team is preparing for their second year. Try outs will be August 20th at 7 pm in Ayton and Sunday August 23 at 7 pm in Ayton.  Try out fees are $10.00 per session. We will play 5 tournaments with some ex games and a few practices...We will not be in LLFHL... We expect 25-28 games and 8-10 practices this season. Cost will be $700 a player with sponsorship fund raising available. This schedule is designed for the players that attend post secondary school and our plan is a tournament per month.  Howie Pruden Coach INT A
