The Saugeen Maitland Lightning (SML) Women’s Hockey Association is recognized across the province for its professional and effective hockey program that develops highly competitive teams. Our success is due in part from the local centers within our catchment area that develop young athletes who seek competition at a higher level. Our main success is our coaching staff who provide a High Performance program that takes our players to an elite level.
For the 2024/2025 Hockey Season, the SML hockey organization plans to ice the following teams:
- U13 AA/A
- U15 AA, U15 A
- U18 AA, U18 A
- U22 A

**Those applying for the Bantam AA and Midget AA teams, must be High Performance-1 'Certified' according to Hockey Canada policy.
**All other coaches must be minimum Development 1 'Certified and Trained' by start of season. The training costs will be covered for coaches appointed to a team.
**All Team Officials must have completed Respect in Sport and a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
The Executive will utilize a Coach Selection Committee consisting of experienced, qualified individuals, from the Executive and outside our organization. The Committee’s mandate is to ensure the best coaching candidates are selected to the Head Coach positions. As a result, all current coaches must submit applications each year. The Committee is accepting applications for all teams. Interviews will be conducted at the discretion of the Coach Selection Committee.
Although the application process is in place, the Saugeen Maitland Lightning Women's Hockey Executive requests your assistance. If you know of a potential Coaching Candidate that you feel could be a valuable asset to our Association, please encourage them to apply or pass on their name to our Selection Committee.
