Lightning Fall Short At Provincials
submitted by Rob Davidson
The Saugeen Maitland Midget Lightning AA’s came up short at this weekend’s OWHA Provincial Championships.    In the opening game of the tournament, the Lighting outshot Kingston 27-10 but needed Kelly Garrow to fire a power play goal late in the game to salvage a 1-1 tie.  In game 2 versus the powerhouse Thunder Bay Queens

the Bolts fell 3-1 to last year’s Midget Canadian Champs.

Going into the final round robin game versus league rival Waterloo Ravens, the Bolts needed a win to secure a trip to the playoff round.   Unfortunately, Saugeen fell short 2-1 and were eliminated from the Provincials.

Thunder Bay would eventually lose in the gold medal game to the Toronto Areos, a team the Lightning had managed to beat in overtime in a previous tournament.

Scoring in weekend play was Kelly Garrow, Dollee Meigs and Laura Irwin while assist went to Meigs, Garrow, Abbey Gibson, Hannah Davidson and Laken Smith.

The Lighting will resume the Lower League playoffs next weekend with a 2nd round series against rival Waterloo.
