Lightning Strike Detroit in BelleTire Tournament
Another memorable and exciting weekend for the Saugeen Maitland Lightning Peewee's as we travelled to Detroit Michigan for the BelleTire Friendship Tournament.

On Friday Nov. 26/10, the SML PWA's played their first tournament game. Our opponents were The Windsor Wildcats. Our girls played fantastic and took the game with a win of 7-0. On Saturday Nov. 27/10, the girls rose early to face our compitition as we challenged the Chatam Outlaws. The girls were driven to play and worked hard to take a 4-0 win for this game. A few hours later, the SML Peewee's came face to face with the hosting team- BelleTire. With very successful teamwork we rolled over the USA team and walked away with a 7-0 win. Another early morning on Sunday saw our girls come against the biggest challenging team as we were playing with Toronto Leaside. Both teams thus far were equal in wins and losses on the schedule board, and the girls looked forward to battling the puck. This was an eventful game for all watching as the SML Peewee's walked away with a tie 1-1 for the fourth game, putting both these teams back into the championship game later in the day.

As the time approached, the girls were pumped and the parents were a walking concern, the Saugeen Maitland Peewee's were ready to battle the puck with Toronto Leaside. In the 1st period, SML could not get on the score board, but also prevented Toronto from attacking back as we saw a 0-0 score. The second period flew in and saw girls playing fast, hard and competative. SML was first on the score board as we put the puck in the net and scored. Only 2 minutes later, Toronto got their revenge and scored back making the second period a 1-1 tie. As the 3rd period starting ticking away, Toronto really stepped up and took the lead as they scored to make it 2-1. It took SML a few minutes to regroup and retaliate, but their efforts paid off as we hit the net making it an even game again at 2-2. The third period ended with a tie taking the teams to overtime. The girls were given a 5 minute overtime period with a 4 on 4 man playing system. It was excellent efforts as the players really gave it their heart and sweat to try and get the one golden goal. At 3:30 of the overtime period, unfortunatly, it was Toronto that got the chance to se the puck go in, taking them to the win of 3-2 and the Champions of the tournament. Both goalies were at their best taking many shots and saving their teams. Saugeen Maitland Lightning walked away with the Consolation and nice bling around their necks.

The coaching staff would like to congratulate the team on a great effort this past weekend!!!! It was nice to see EVERYONE take a certain role in our success. You all made us very proud to be on this bench with you!!!!
Keep up the good work Girls
