Saugeen falls short in Rochester
Saugeen travelled to Rochester for the Bauer Fire On Ice Tournament and needing a win in the 3rd game to move to the final 4 lost 2-0 to a Boston squad.
Saugeen opened up with a 0-0 draw against Durham West. Erica Parker played outstanding in net gaining her first star and her first shut out.
Game two saw the Lightning score in the last 6 minutes to defeat North York 1-0. Kara Hattan tipped a Allison Lemon blast from the point. A shut out for Emma Bluhm.
Needing a win in game 3 Saugeen continued their woes putting a puck in and lost 2-0 to eliminate them from the Gold medal round.
Saugeen played Pittsburg in a consolation round and lost a close one 3-2. Saugeen opened the scoring with a shot from the circle by Olivia Linklater and assisted by Amy Hepburn. Pittsburg evened the score a minute later on a shot from the point.
Pittsburg took the lead in the second but Saugeen tied it up a minute later. Olivia Linklater battled for a puck behind the Pittsburg net and found Sam Pruden alone in front and Sam buried for the tie. Pittsburg scored with 4 minutes to go in the third and with held a Lightning flurry to take the game.
"Great effort in the final game and with that intensity in all our games we would have been playing for gold."
