Silver Stick Weekend

Saugeen had an excellent weekend in Aurora at Silver Stick ending up with a record of 1-1-1. We had two excellent games and had a tough game vs Stouffville.

Game one Saugeen 3 Oakville 3, game two Stouffville 5 Saugeen 2 and game three Saugeen 6 Barrie 5.

Game 1: Saugeen played an excellent game versus a top rated Oakville team and ending up with a 3 to 3 draw. Oakville ended up in the finals of the tournament.

Mel Nolan scored the first two goals and Olivia Linklater put Saugeen up in the second period for the lead. Oakville tied it up mid third period and Emma Bluhm shut the door in net for the tie. Assists went to Jenah Van Loon and Brie Becker both with 2 with Allison Lemon and Abbi Aitkins picking up one each.

Game 2: Stouffville came out strong after dropping their first game and out worked Saugeen for a 5-2 win. Stouffville outplayed Saugeen in our defensive end and lost board battles and give a ways in our end resulted in the 5 goals. Amy Hepburn and Mel Nolan both had a goal and an assist to lead the Lightning attack. Kara Hatton had an assist.

Game 3. Needing a win and one of the other 2 games to end in a tie the Lightning had one of their best offensive games of the year. Saugeen ending up with a 6 to 5 win over Barrie which eliminated Barrie but Saugeen got no help in the other 2 games and also were eliminated.

Saugeen fell behind early with a 4 to 2 score but stormed back with 4 unanswered goals of their own and held on for the win. 8 goals were scored in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Rebecca Rier and Amy Hepburn both scored a pair with Mel Nolan and Jenah Van Loon picking up singles.
Assists went to Brie Becker (2) Kayla McCabe (2) Olivia Linklater (2) Allison Lemon, Amy Hepburn and Abbi Aitkins getting one.
