Lightning and Rangers Deadlocked at 4
Kitchener came to Howick on Sunday and left with a 4 to 4 tie. Kitchener opened the scoring and lead after the first 2 to 1. Saugeen stormed back in the second with 3 goals to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
Saugeen could not hold the lead and Kitchener scored twice in the final 5 minutes to salvage a point. It was a disappointing finish as we controlled most of the game but need to be better in our own end with the game on the line.
The Ranger's opened the scoring at the 7 minute mark but Saugeen responded 2 minutes later with a goal from Rebecca Rier. Rebecca fired the puck through a maze of players to tie up the game and was assisted by Olivia Linklater and Sam Pruden. Kitchener regained the lead 34 seconds later and the period ended with Saugeen down a goal.
Early in the second Mallory Hussey stole the puck deep in the Kitchener end and hammered a shot to tie up the game. Amy Hepburn then scored a minute later to take the lead on a pass from Rebecca Rier and Kayla McCabe.
Saugeen finally clicked on the power play late in the second to take a 2 goal lead into the break. Saugeen flooded in the zone and Sam Pruden cycled low and found Olivia Linklater driving to the net and Olivia went top shelf to give Saugeen a much needed power play. Rebecca Rier picked up the other assist for a 3 point game.
Kitchener stormed back in the last 5 minutes when Saugeen had trouble clearing the zone and both goals came from give aways.
A good point but with a road trip to London and Sarnia this weekend a lost point we needed.
