Lightning robbed by London
Saugeen travelled to London Sunday night to play the 98's and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Devilettes. Saugeen carried the play all game and held a 2-1 into the third. Saugeen picked up 2 penalties in the third and London scored twice on the power play to steal the 2 points.
We took three brutal calls that should have never been called and as a result we gave up a goal with under a minute to play that cost us the game.
Saugeen opened the scoring on a draw won by Sam Pruden and taken by Brie Becker. Brie passed to Allison Lemon who sent a rocket to the net for her first goal as a Saugeen player. London tied it up late in the period to end the first tied at one.
Saugeen regained the lead on a beautiful rush by Rebecca Rier who broke through the d and fired a hard shot that was stopped but Becca continued to the net and hammered in her rebound. Aryn Buchanan assisted on the play.
London scored on the power play in the third to tie up the match. Amy Hepburn found the net shortly after picking up Sam Pruden's rebound in front of the net and giving the Lightning a 3-2 lead. London stormed back again to tie it up.
Saugeen took a brutal call from the ref with a minute to play and London finished the comeback with goal scored in a scramble to take 2 big points. A win would have put Saugeen in 4th but the loss drops them to 7th.
Saugeen was short 4 players and ran with 2 lines as many kids are battling the flu and injuries. A great effort by all the girls who played an excellent game and were robbed by the refs. Great work girls! Guelph tournament up next.
