Busy Weekend for the Lightning!!!!!!
This past weekend saw the Lightning play a total of three games and their first win in league play!!!

The Pee Wee Lightning traveled to Burlington on Saturday to face a tough Barracuda team coming away with a tough 4-0 loss. The girls then re-grouped to get ready for a Double Header in Howick on Sunday against Windsor and Guelph.

On Sunday the Lightning came out strong and aggressive against Windsor scoring two in the First period. The Coaching staff were very happy with the aggressive play and the intensity at which the girls played at for the game heading into the third period, excited at the chance for our first league win. Coach Jason had a great talk between periods in the dressing room and the girls came out flying in the third, as they played even harder against the Wildcats and scored the final goal with 5 minutes left to seal the win. Our Goalie KC, played an excellent game to secure the shutout and our goals came from Jex, Sollinger & Maue, with assists coming from Melady, Maue, Smith (2), Mighton & Sollinger. The girls, Coaching Staff and Parents were excited to see the girls come away with their first league win with a great effort and aggressive play.

The second game of the day saw the Lightning play the Guelph Thunder later in the afternoon with the welcome addition of M Davey, who we played our first game of the year, in tournament play. The girls still reeling from their first win, came out hard against the Thunder taking a 1-1 tie into the second period keeping pace with the Thunder and for parts of the period taking the play to them in their end and out working the visitors. Playing a stronger team, the Coaching staff were excited to see that our practice drills are paying off in a game setting as we are improving getting the puck out of our own zone with a strong defensive effort from Wilken and Melady. After the the Thunder scored, to take a 2-1 lead on a nice play into the flood, the girls were not able to keep the aggressive play going into the third seeing the Thunder score two more making it a 4-1 game. Although the girls played hard and aggressive against the Thunder, we can see more conditioning practices in the future!!!! Our lone goal was scored by Jex with helpers from Melady and Hewitt along with a strong game in the crease by KC.

Great Weekend Girls and keep playing hard!!!!

Go Lightning!!!!
