Midget AA, 2012-2013 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

Submitted by Rob Duncan.  The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning capped off a very successful season this past weekend, winning a bronze medal at the OWHA Provincial Championships, held this year in Ottawa to coincide with the Womens World Championships.  The Bolts started the round robin portion of the tournament on Thursday with a 3-1 win over the Barrie Sharks.  Captain Kelly Gribbons got things started depositing one in the back of the net with assists going to Harley Westman and Tori Terpstra.  Ashlee Lawrence then scored the first of her two goals with the lone assist awarded to ...

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning came home with the bronze medal from the Lower Lakes League final this past weekend with their only loss in5 games to eventual champions, the Stoney Creek Sabres.  The Lightning opened the round robin tournament with a 2-0 victory over the Etobicoke Dolphins.  Maddie Duncan got things started with a clapper from the high slot with assists going to Cassidy Colhoun and Courtney Surridge.  Colhoun then potted one of her own, scoring on a rebound off a Lexi Smith shot with an additional assist going to Miranda Lantz.  Morgan Baker ...

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning advanced to the Lower Lakes League final this past weekend over the Brantford Ice Cats.  Needing only a tie to advance to the league final tournament, the Bolts secured a 0-0 draw with the visiting Ice Cats.  Shea Tiley held the meshed fort to secure the tie and the shutout.  The previous week the Lightning had taken a 3 points to 1 lead in the 4 point series with another 0-0 draw and a 5-1 win over Brantford.  Harley Westman opened the scoring in the win, assisted by Kelly Gribbons and Tori Terpstra.   Gribbons scored one of ...

Submitted by Dave Baker. On a recent road trip to Sudbury the girls spent their down time making Gum Ball Flowers. The flowers are to be sold at home games for the Midget AA team to raise money in support of Jorie Elliot and the Ronald McDonald House of London. Jorie is a schoolmate and former teammate of the girls from Kincardine. Her mom Sheryl is the Principal of some of our Walkerton and Mildmay girls.  Kincardine’s Jorie Elliott, 16, is currently battling leukemia in London hospital. Submitted by Rob Duncan.The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning advanced on to the Lower Lakes West Division final with a 1-0 shutout of the Bluewater Hawks Saturday in Strathroy.  The defence core of Kailyn Soers, Sarah Biesenthal, Jamie Simpson and Jordyn Sholdice were solid, blocking shots and keeping the puck out of their defensive zone.  Harley Westman scored the only goal of the game, lifting one into the top corner through a screen.  Sholdice gained the only assist.  Morgan Baker shut the door on all Bluewater scoring attempts to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard and earn the ...
