Submitted by Rob Duncan. The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning completed a 4 point weekend with wins over the London Devilettes and the Sarnia Sting. Saturday the Bolts were home in Teeswater for another visit from the London Devilettes. The Lightning dominated from the opening face-off, handing the Devilettes a 3-1 loss. Kelly Gribbons opened the scoring on a low shot from a bad angle after a slick feed from Lexi Smith. Jordyn Sholdice also assisted. Smith then stuffed one in the short side with helpers from Gribbons and Cassidy Colhoun. Smith completed the 3 point game with a great individual effort, scoring on her own rebound.
Sunday the Lightning travelled to Sarnia to face the Western Division
leading
Sarnia Sting. The Bolts showed their tougher side, refusing to back
down
from the gritty Sting and taking advantage of power play
opportunities
against the league leader in team penalty minutes. Colhoun
scored her first
of two goals by going post and in after getting the Sarnia
goaltender moving
in the wrong direction. Tori Terpstra and Gribbons earned
assists. Ashlee
Lawrence then scored a beauty short-handed tally on a
breakaway after
blocking a Sarnia point shot in her own end. Colhoun scored
the eventual
game winner, tipping in a Kailyn Soers point shot. Courtney
Surridge won
the face-off, drawing it back to Soers on the point. Final
score, Lightning
3, Sting 2. Follow the Lightning results at
