Midget AA Lightning Take 6 of 8 Points
Submitted by Rob Duncan.  The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning were on the road for 2 double-headers this past weekend in Chatham and Strathroy and came home with six of a possible eight points.  The weekend started Saturday morning in Walpole Island with a 1-0 shut-out of the Chatham Outlaws.  Ashlee Lawrence scored the only goal of the game with assists going to line-mates Miranda Lantz and Dawn Pletsch.  Shea Tiley was solid between the pipes to earn the shut-out.  After a short 1-1/2 hour break and a light lunch, the Bolts were back on the ice again.  Although the Lightning did not dictate the play as much as in the first game, they still carried the play and came out on top with a 4-1 win over the Outlaws.

Pletsch scored the first of her two goals, stuffing the puck under the Chatham goaltender on a goal-mouth scramble.  Lawrence and Lantz both earned assists.  Pletsch's second goal went in off her skate from a Sarah Biesenthal point shot.  Jamie Simpson got the second assist by feeding her defence partner Beisenthal following a face-off win in the Chatham zone.  Tori Terpstra then scored unassisted on a nice individual effort right off the opening third period face-off.  Lexi Smith closed out the scoring with an open net goal off a zone-clearing pass from Cassidy Colhoun. Sunday saw the Lightning in Strathroy for another double-header with the Bluewater Hawks.  In the first game, the Lightning fell 1-0 to the Hawks.  Despite out-shooting Bluewater, the Bolts had trouble finishing and the Hawks scored late in the 3rd period on a break-away.   The Lightning seemed to re-charge between games and despite some signs of fatigue after 4 games in 2 days, they showed true grit and gutted out a 2-1 win in their second game against the Hawks.  Kelly Gribbons led the way with both goals with Terpstra assisting on both markers.  Lawrence also assisted on the first goal, doing some blue-collar work in the corners.  The six point weekend puts the Lightning back in contention for first place in their Lower Lakes South-West division.  The Lightning close out their regular season with 3 games over the January 26/27 weekend including two home games on the Saturday.  For schedule and results see the Lightning web-site,www.saugeenmaitlandlightning.com.
