Lightning lites up Wildcats
Woodstock Wildcats travelled to Howick for a double header on Sunday and Saugeen took the opener 5-1 and then split a 0-0 tie for 3 big points. Saugeen now sits in second place 2 points back with a game in hand. Saugeen is riding an 8 game unbeaten streak.
Game 1 : The Lightning exploded for 4 goals in the first period and cruised to a 5-1 win with goaltender Emma Bluhm getting the win and awarded the Laura award for game MVP
Cassidy Mason opened the scoring on a break away on the second shift of the game. Victoria Krulicki split the defense and went in alone from the red line and went high to give Saugeen a 2 goal lead and the eventual game winning goal. Taylor MacDonald got the assist on a great feed up the middle.
Sam Pruden and Cassidy Mason went in on a 2 on 1 a minute later with Sam going upstairs for a 3-0 lead. Cassidy carried the puck down low and made a great pass out front for the assist. Lisa Mohr finished the scoring in the 1st with a last minute goal in a goal mouth scramble assisted by Hailey Herman and Reagan Kaufman.
Ally Spielmacher drove the net late in the second and stuffed the puck under the goaltender for a 5 goal lead with an assist going to Cassidy Mason. Woodstock scored the only goal on a deflection while they were on a 5 on 3 power play. Great game by the Lightning.
Game 2: Both teams played a gritty game and battled to a scoreless draw. Rebecca Ropp won the "Laura award" for her great game and earning her 10th shut out of the year. Saugeen hit the penalty box 11 times with some questionable calls but managed to keep the puck out ....Great work on PK especially the 2 five on 3's.
Saugeen host Sarnia Saturday and travels to Waterloo on Sunday.
