Peewees Advance to Semi Final
The Saugeen Maitland AA Peewees finished the round robin portion of the Oakville Tournament second in their pool putting them into Sunday's semi-final match.
After their first win against Barrie, the Lightning faced Sudbury Lady Wolves and with a strong all around performance won 5 - 2.
The Lightning had their final game against a tough Nepean team on Saturday morning. The girls came out strong, but the game remained scoreless after one period. During the second period, Nepean were able to capitalize on some scoring opportunities, going into the break between the second and third periods with 3 unanswered goals.
Looking like that there was going to be a three way tie in their pool between Sudbury, Nepean and the Lightning, and the determination on who got to go to the finals was going to come down to a formula on goals for and against, Saugeen knew that every goal was important in this final period against Nepean. The girls continued to dominate and were able get one of the goals back making it a 3-1 final score but it was enough to put them into the semi finals.
The girls will now face the tournament host, Oakville who finished first in their pool, on Sunday morning. Nepean will face Cambridge in the other semi-final.
