Midget A, 2012-2013 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

Saugeen finished their season Saturday night with a 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Ice. Saugeen played well and out shot and out played Ottawa for most of the game but gave up a short handed goal and a late second period goal to end their season. The Lightning could not finish and despite great pressure were unable to score. The girls had a great year...Winning their LFHL division, Silver Stick Champs, Gold in Bauer Invitational, Silver in Oakville and finishing first in their pool in the Provincials. The Lightning Midget A girls finished off Owen Sound on Sunday night.  Thursday the girls had a convincing victory in Clifford winning 5-1 to take a 3 to 1 point lead.  Game 3 went back to Owen Sound and Saugeen skated to a 1-1 tie for the series victory.   Saugeen played one of their best games of the year  in Clifford playing a dominating game and forcing Owen Sound to win the next game by 4 or more goals.  Saugeen played two very good teams in beating Stratford and then Owen Sound for the rights to go to Provincials. 

Saugeen travelled to Owen Sound Friday night for the first game of Provincials playdowns and skated to a 2-2 tie. Saugeen opened the scoring in the first as Reagan Kaufman went bar down on a beauty shot to take the lead. Lisa Mohr hammered home a power play marker to give the team a two goal lead early in the second.  Owen Sound cut the lead in half on a power play mid through the second. Owen Sound capitalized on a give away in the third  to tie the game and the series....

The Saugeen Maitland Midget A team captured Gold this week at the Int. Silver Stick in Sarnia defeating Brampton 3-0 in the gold medal game. Saugeen capped off a remarkable comeback after dropping their first two games in the tournament losing 1-0 to Oakville and 4-1 to Brampton. Saugeen needed a win by 3 goals in the third game to win a 3 way tie for 2nd moving them on to the quarters. After a team heart to heart prior to the game Saugeen played their best game of the year hammering Woodstock 6-1. Saugeen then beat a Windsor AA team 2-1. Saugeen Maitland came away with a big win on Saturday in Waterloo winning 1-0 for their 5th  straight shut out and 6 wins in a row. The win guaranteed first place for the Lightning team putting them 3 up with one game to play. Saugeen finished off the regular season on Sunday traveling to Stratford and skated to a 2-2 tie. Saugeen played 233 minutes with out giving up a goal before Stratford broke the streak. Saugeen now plays Sarnia in the first round of LLFHL playoffs.
