Midget AA, 2013 - 2014 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

Submitted by Scott Biesenthal The family day weekend of February 14-16 the Saugeen Midget AA travelled to Parry Sound for a series of  exhibition games. Along with the Lightning were teams from Sudbury, Whitby, Oakville, Stoney Creek and Scanlon Hockey Academy from Barrie. All games were very close which made for some exciting hockey.  The Saugeen ladies had a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties.

Submitted by Scott Biesenthal The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA traveled to Sarnia on Jan 31- Feb 2 to play in the International Silver Stick Tournament. Game one had the Lightning up against Honeybaked from Detroit. Honeybaked opened the scoring in the first but the Maitland girls evened it up before the period was over as Sarah Biesenthal tucked one into the cage from Kelsey Dixon.  

Submitted by Scott Biesenthal The start of 2014 has been very good for the Saugeen Maitland Midget AA.  They have achieved a record of 5 wins and a tie with one game remaining in league play with Chatham. During that span they defeated London (Team 648) 6-0, 2-0, and tied Sarnia at 2, as well as defeating Bluewater 2-0.  They also beat London (Team 611) 4-0.  All 3 forward lines have produced goals, and the 6 defencemen have produced 9 points with each defencemen recording at least 1 point. 

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning competed in the annual Mississauga Christmas Classic tournament over the weekend between Christmas and New Years and came home with the silver medal. 

The Midget AA Lightning recently stuffed a mini-van full of clothing, toys, non-perishable food and personal items to be donated to the House of Blessing, a food bank and shelter serving Stratford and the surrounding area.  The girls collected the items from the homes of family and friends to help bring a little more happiness and comfort to those who need it this time of year.
