Peewee A Team Earns Silver at Cambridge Challenge Cup
The
Peewee A team participated in the Cambridge Roadrunner’s New Year’s Challenge
Cup this past weekend and brought home a silver medal.
The girls recorded three wins and one loss (4-0 vs North York Storm, 3-0 vs Aurora Panthers, 1-0 vs Cambridge Roadrunners and 3-4 vs Chatham Outlaws) in round robin play. This put them in first place in their group and sent them off to a semi-final against the North Bay Boltz on Sunday morning. The Peewees pulled off a 2-1 win over the Boltz to advance to the gold medal final later that day. The gold medal game versus the Lakeshore Lightning was very close with end to end action. A lone power play goal by the Lakeshore Lightning would stand up as the game winner despite the valiant efforts and numerous scoring chances of the Maitland team. The Lakeshore Lightning won the game 1-0, leaving the Saugeen Maitland girls to settle for silver. Most valuable player honours throughout the tournament were given to Taylor Chegahno, Kennedy Stauffer, Sarah Waddell, Maya Robinson, Lauren Neil, and Annie MacKinnon.
