Peewee A, 2015-2016 (Saugeen Maitland Lightning)

It’s been a tumultuous two weeks of playoff hockey for the Pee Wee A squad that’s for sure. In the OWHA series there was some heartbreak as the Lady Lightning were unable to secure a spot in the Provincial tournament as they dropped the deciding game three in a double OT barn burner on Thursday night to the Stratford Aces. We wish them good fortune in April. No time to hang the heads as the second round of LLFHL playoff action resumed Saturday in the Forest City. The Lady Lightning Pee Wee A squad pulled off one for the books this past weekend as they went 5 for 5. To start the party they swept the annual Walter Gretzky tourney in Brantford by defeating Stratford, North Halton and the Sault St Marie Wildcats (twice). This completes the regular season set of tournament medallions with one bronze, one silver and now one gold!

The Pee Wee A team earned their second medal of the season Saturday night as they won a thrilling OT victory over the Sault St. Marie Wildcats. It was an outstanding way to end a tremendous weekend of hockey for the Lightning. The ladies started the journey by defeating Oakville and Ancaster on Friday and then followed those W's by besting Kitchener Saturday am.

The Pee Wee Lightning traveled to Steel Town to compete in the annual Pittsburgh Penguin Elite Thanksgiving Classic. It was a fun filled three days with Black Friday shopping, a tour of the Robert Morris Lady Colonials locker room, and RMU NCAA Div 1 game vs Maine, an NHL game of Pittsburgh vs Edmonton and of course a little hockey action of their own. On that note the Lady Lightning swept their round robin play defeating Oakville, Mississauga, and Durham West before falling to the eventual tournament champs Little Caesars of Detroit 3-1. The Pee Wee A team captured the silver medal this past weekend in Clarington with a thrilling shoot out loss to the host Flames. The Lady Lightning went 4-0 in round robin play defeating Clarington, Stratford, Hamilton, North York and then skated past Scarborough in the semi finals. Well done ladies! Your coaches and families are proud of your accomplishments to date - keep working hard and moving forward.
